Contact centre needs volunteers

ARE YOU THE PERSON WE’RE LOOKING FOR?

Reasonably fit?  Available 8 Sundays a year? Wanting to show compassionate care for families needing support?

The Supported Child Contact Centre in Sevenoaks needs more  male volunteers.

Why? – because for the “absent” parent this Centre is a lifeline.  The parent (usually the father) is enabled to be with his children two hours twice a month.  The centre is run by an ecumenical team of volunteers from our local churches.   We are men and women who enjoy working together, six at a time on a rota, providing a welcome and hospitality that we feel proud of: lots of toys and games, table tennis etc, a garden in good weather and refreshments.

We do not “look after” or “take over” the children, except perhaps if a dad who has had little contact with his baby or toddler, needs one of us to be quietly alongside for awhile.

So, no special qualifications required (police check needed) but a desire to do one’s best for a family at a difficult, probably fraught time.

You are welcome to come along and see; it’s not for everyone.  It’s one of the “best things” I’m involved in and immensely rewarding.

Please contact Sally Stiven on 01732 452 482 if interested.
