The saying goes, “to begin to really understand another human being, you first need to walk a mile in their shoes.
Desperate Journeys is a powerful immersive experience, designed by local charity Empathy Action to increase people’s understanding of the global refugee crisis and build empathy with the 68.5 million forcibly displaced people, of which 25.4 million are refugees, living in our world today.
Each ‘Journey’ through the maze-like experience can be made by up to 30 people at a time and lasts approximately 90 minutes, including a reflective discussion at the end. It is a moving experience with a recommended minimum age of 13. Journeys will take place at set times during the opening hours of Royal Victoria Place, throughout the week and at weekends. The experience is open to schools, community groups, charities, businesses, shoppers and passers by…in fact everyone who is interested! The aim is to reach out to as many people as possible.
Our challenging new piece is firmly based in facts, first hand accounts and case studies of this global issue to bring home to participants the human stories behind the headlines.
Previous participants have said:
‘Everyone should experience it’ ‘You have definitely opened my eyes to this crisis’
An experience that will surely stay with me forever’ 'An inspired, thought-provoking experience’
