Welcome to the latest news from the Children & Young People Team.

Best wishes from the children & young people team, we hope and pray that as the busy Autumn approaches you have found time to rest, relax and reflect at some stage during the summer months. In this issue you'll find resources, training & job opportunities and reading to reflect on as we embark on the All Saints season.

I was recently privileged to be asked to deliver a session incorporating the All Saints, All Hallows' season and Interventional Worship at a CMD day for Rochester's clergy. There were three of us delivering various aspects within this theme, one on bereavement, All Saints and myself. There was a difference in style of delivery, content and learning, however the common theme was putting those whom we serve at the forefront and how we as leaders create encounters for Christ to meet with us even in death or memorial. The inspiration of the Saints, being released and renewed and finally transforming church in many communities. We as a diocese are fast approaching the launch of the Bishop's strategic framework, which will detail how parishes and the diocese resource, enrich and grow communities over the next 5 years and I'm very pleased to announce that children and young people feature heavily within the framework which will indeed give us all inspiration, the opportunity to be renewed and released and transforming our worshipping communities across the diocese. Please join all walks of the diocese on Saturday 5th November in Rochester cathedral during the afternoon to hear how the Bishop's Strategic Framework can and will resource, enrich and grow.

Training

BOOST 2018
The Diocese, in partnership with the South East Partnership will be facilitating their next conference on Exploring Identity and Inclusion in Children's and Youth Ministry – this will take place on the 6^th March 2018 at the Emmanuel Centre in London. Bookings are now open.

St Augustine's Centre for Spirituality and Mission are offering a course entitled "Trailing Clouds of Glory", nurturing the spirituality of children. It’s designed to top up ministerial training, as well as suitable for teachers or children/youth workers/ ministers.

Reading and Resources

HOPE Revolution continues to empower young people for peer to peer evangelism, and this month is launching Mission Academy Live.

The Bible Project are offering a "How to Read the Bible" which is an on-going series aimed at helping you read the Bible more wisely, and with greater understanding. Downloadable resources are available after a simple registration.

Prayer Spaces in Schools 3 ‘rapid response’ prayer spaces which could be used in case of a tragedy. You need to register to download them, but that’s free.

Whole People of God offers lectionary based resources – priced according to the size of your congregation.

Seasons of the Spirit also offer lectionary based resources which some churches already use.

Children's Work

Early Years Autumn Summit Online - register now for the free Summit happening later on this month.

Resources

Eden books have a number of resources to celebrate the alternative to Halloween, which includes books and a Meaningful Treat Box to use for mission work leading up to Halloween.

Light Parties - click here for how you can get material from Scripture Union to use as an alternative to Halloween.

Going 4 Growth - have a number of resources for sessions throughout the Church Calendar year.

Children and Young People team at the Diocesan Office also have a number of resources to help with anything to do with Children or Young People, which includes books on holiday clubs, planning your Sunday club or alternative Halloween events with others and lots of games equipment. Contact Sarah Cabella on how to borrow these.

Prayer Spaces in Schools - details of their day conferences which are being held in September.

Reading

Word on the streets blog highlights the importance of needing to pay attention to children when divorce happens.

Spurgeons Children's Charity - highlights what parents report as being important for their children.

One Way UK (puppets) are holding various training days throughout the year, one being hosted by Bromley Parish Church on the 30th September. A practical hands on day suitable for both adults and children, where there will be plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and be inspired with new ideas!

23rd September 2017
Prayer Spaces in Schools Day Conference. St Mark's Battersea Rise in London. Cost £20 per person. This day is for anyone interested in Prayer Spaces.

16 - 18th January 2018
Employed Youth and Children's Workers Retreat, The Oasts, Northiam. More details to come.

6th March 2018
BOOST Conference, Emmanuel Centre, London. The theme is on Exploring Identity and Inclusion for Children's and Youth Ministry. It costs £25 earlybird by 31st December, thereafter £30. Price includes lunch.

26 - 27 May 2018
Big Church Day Out South great chance for an early bird discount if you book now.

North Kent Training Service - based in Medway, this company offers high quality training services, covering subjects like time management, mental health, understanding autism or effective bid writing / responding to tenders. Although based in Medway they do cover the whole of Kent. Worth contacting if you're looking for training that the Diocese doesn't offer.
